Four Friends
We were a gang of Five who hung out together in the 1990's. We met, by chance, at an artists' collective in Spain, and immediately formed a friendship. We still run into each other occasionally, but a lot of countries now seperate us, alas. A year ago, when I was at an opening in Marseille, a dark-haired man emerged from the crowd and stared at me. There, standing in front of me was one of the original gang -- "French Tony", whom I had not seen for 10 years. That was a meeting that will not be quickly forgotten! The next day I had an idea as to how to portray the gang. The opportunity to do so came some six months later when I was back in France -- a series of paintings called "Four Friends". The paintings are bewildering and move me very much.
