Women With Red Lipstick

It happened at the bar.

I had just taken the last sip of beer, which by then was more than reasonably warm but still welcome, as the bar I was sitting in surely held a temperature of at least 30 degrees, forcing my fluid levels down to a critically low point.

In the mirror behind bottles and glasses, I saw at a table a lone woman, just in the act of preparing herself for some form of makeup.

My mind sharpened, and I saw that she now held a small mirror in her left hand and in her right something I assumed was a lipstick.

It’s not that I am especially curious or interested in the doings of others, but at that precise moment my gaze had become etched into her young, wild, exciting yet unfocusable face, and there was no way for me to avoid seeing what was about to follow…
